Finding Money

By |December 11th, 2016|

It’s the time of the year when finding hidden money can help reduce holiday stress. A semiannual review of household expenses can put significant dollars back in your pocket. Start by checking with your cable company for new offers, or check with your cell phone provider to see if your phone package is still […]

Not All Upgrades Raise Home Value

By |October 11th, 2016|

Residing in a home can stimulate the imagination and seduce one into adding the “perfect” tweak to enhance livability and enjoyment in the house. Unfortunately, when it is time to refinance this home, the wrong tweak may actually lower the value of the house.

The Seller’s Market

By |October 16th, 2015|

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) recently reported that the inventory of homes for sale is low. In a balanced market, a 6-month supply of available homes is the norm. Currently there is only a 4.8-month supply of homes available. If you are debating selling your home this year, it might be time to meet with a local real estate professional who is able to tell you what price homes similar to yours are selling for as well what price you might expect. What Do New Buyers Look for in a Home?

By |October 16th, 2015|

Young adults are the most prominent segment of the population buying homes these days. The features they are seeking have universal appeal and are likely to make a home sell quickly. The most sought after elements bring luxury to the home, make the home fun to entertain in, and a private place to relax. With the advent of TV shows featuring high-end home upgrades or how to get that look for less, many new buyers are looking for upgrades that make their home feel special. […]

Home Inspection Surprises

By |August 28th, 2015|

If you have ever sold a home, the home inspection phase of the process is the most nerve wracking. Many people hold their breath and hope there are no expensive surprises. There is a movement afoot encouraging the seller to have their home pre-inspected before putting it on the market.

The pre-inspection concept makes sense. It allows the seller sufficient time to use their preferred contractor or to fix the items themselves.  It gives the seller peace of mind knowing that there will be no expensive surprises. If the buyer chooses to have their own inspection, the seller can be confident that no major issues will surface. A savvy seller knows how to get ahead of the game by having these areas checked for damage.           […]

Sell Now

By |July 20th, 2015|

Live in the Present
If you are waiting to put your house on the market, now may be the perfect time to sell. In years past, selling cycles usually peaked early summer, but last year amid the threat of an increase in interest rates more people entered the market mid-summer. Selling now may also save you on the monthly mortgage payment for your next home if you sell before the predicted rise in interest rates. The possibility of an increase in mortgage rates currently is spurring the home-buying market. […]

The Over-Improved Home

By |June 29th, 2015|

I love to watch home improvement TV shows and browse catalogs dreaming about what I need in my home to make it the perfect retreat. But adding elaborate and specific upgrades may make my home less desirable to a buyer. This may cost me money if my home is on the market for a longer period of time when I sell. While I imagine encountering a buyer who loves my home the same way that I do, after watching a few episodes of House Hunters on HGTV, I am reminded that everyone has very different taste and the odds may not be in my favor!

Taking Advantage of Advantage Home Plus

By |June 5th, 2015|

Recently a new client confided in me that he did two things when he got this job. First, he confirmed the start date, and then he reviewed the employee benefit package. He recounted that he had read every condition covered in the health benefit package, reviewed the vacation and holiday schedule, then stumbled across the mortgage benefit package, the no cost employee home ownership program. “I was delighted that was available to me as well as my family as I have a brother who is expecting a baby and will be buying a home soon”. He immediately went to the Advantage Home Plus web site to read more. “I thought it would just offer education on mortgages for the first time buyer, and contact information, but I discovered that the website was a great place to inquire about loan prequalification, refinancing, home renovation loans and to learn about every aspect of the home buying experience”, he said.
